Terms of Service
Last updated: 28 July 2026
These terms apply when you use The First Move. By creating an account you agree to them. In short: this is a planning tool, not a source of financial advice.
What this service is
The First Move is a planner, not an adviser. It's a personal finance planning tool that helps you estimate the monthly cost of properties you're considering, using the income, savings, and outgoings you tell it about. It is not a mortgage broker, financial adviser, or property search engine, and it doesn't verify anything you enter against a bank, credit reference agency, or lender.
Every figure it shows you (score, leftover income, affordability rating) is an estimate calculated from what you typed in. None of it is checked against your real financial position, and none of it should be treated as financial advice or a mortgage offer. Property decisions should be made with a qualified, whole-of-market broker and, where appropriate, a solicitor or conveyancer.
Your account and your data
You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Most of what this service stores (income, take-home pay, deposit sources, monthly outgoings, saved properties) is entered by you and used only to power your own planning calculations. You must be 18 or over to use this service. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail on what's stored and why.
Partner linking
Separately from your own data, you can choose to link your account with a buying partner's. This shares a lot of personal and financial data with that account: raw income, take-home pay, itemised deposit and commitment entries, saved places, and every property either of you adds. Read Partner linking and shared data in our Privacy Policy for the full list before you link. As above, any combined or joint figures shown once you're linked are still just planning estimates, not verified or advised figures.
By sending or accepting a partner invite, you're confirming you understand what becomes visible to that account and agreeing to share your data with them. You can unlink at any time from your account settings; unlinking stops future sharing and clears both accounts' notification histories, though it won't remove comments your ex-partner left on a property that remains yours (or vice versa).
You can also generate a link to a single property that doesn't require signing in to view. Anyone with that link can see the full financial breakdown for that property as it stood when the link was created, and it stays valid for 7 days. Only send these to people you're comfortable seeing that information.
Subscription and billing
A free tier providing access to up to three properties is available at no cost. Premium unlocks unlimited properties and partner linking, and is offered on two plans: a monthly subscription of £6.99, or a one-time annual pass of £19.99 covering 12 months.
Payments are processed by Stripe. The monthly subscription renews automatically each month on the day you first subscribed. The annual pass is a single payment that does not renew; premium ends at the close of the 12-month period unless you purchase again. We will give advance notice of any change to these prices.
Cancellation
You may cancel a monthly subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; premium access continues until that date, and no further charge is taken.
The annual pass is a one-time purchase and cannot be cancelled. Premium remains active for the full 12-month period and then ends unless you purchase again.
Except as set out in the Refunds section below, we do not pro-rate or refund unused time.
Refunds
Statutory cancellation period. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have the right to cancel within 14 days of purchase. Where you cancel within this period, we will refund your payment less a proportionate deduction reflecting the premium access already provided. This deduction is approximately 23p per day on the monthly plan, and approximately 5p per day on the £19.99 annual pass. To exercise this right, contact support@thefirstmove.co.uk; the refund is issued to your original payment method within 14 days. Nothing in these terms limits this right.
After the cancellation period. Once the 14-day period has ended, payments are non-refundable. A monthly subscription may be cancelled before the next billing date to prevent further charges; an annual pass continues for the remainder of its 12-month term.
Billing errors and faulty service. Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights. If you are charged in error, for example a duplicate payment or a charge taken after cancellation, or if the service is not provided as described, contact support@thefirstmove.co.uk and we will investigate and put it right.
